Business Development Guild Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Business Development Guild? What is its purpose?
The BD Guild is the premier voice for the Business Development profession. It offers opportunities to build a bridge between forces who unfortunately are often at odds – Business Development and Operations. Through education and collaboration, The BD Guild is building that bridge with the intent of helping organizations achieve what we all strive for – Drive Revenue!
Is this a group of “just” Business Development people?
Successful business development requires BD and operations to work together as a team.
The membership consists of Owners, Managers and Operations professionals in addition to BD professionals. In fact, it is our goal to have an even 50-50 membership split between BD and operations.
What are the benefits of membership in the BD Guild? Do I have to join in order to attend?
The benefits to membership are many. To start, you are supporting the profession. One receives discounts to all meetings, events and educational curriculum. Receive access to the Members Only Portal on the web site. Direct access to the Advisory Board. Members only events held throughout the year. AND, one has a voice in shaping the future of the organization.
What is a “One Plus One” Membership Model?
The goal is to bring BD and Operations together. For $299 annual fee, one has a dedicated full-time membership (i.e. BD professional). The Plus One flexibility to an organization while also fostering collaboration and teamwork. We are also offering a Young Professional rate of $169 for those under 35.
How often are your meetings?
Our general meetings are held every other month. Members Only meetings are held a few times per year. The Certified Developer Curriculum starts in the spring and runs through fall.
I have been asked why belong to a group that trains by competition. Is that a valid question?
No, it’s not;) The BD Guild’s mission is to elevate the profession and help teams become more successful. Architects, engineering, environmental, banking and others have training, certification and continuing education. Business Development as a professional deserves the same treatment and respect.
Is membership for a calendar year or from the date I join?
Membership is from the date one joins and runs for the proceeding 12 months.
My company paid for an individual membership but that person left the company. Is the membership transferable?
Yes, a membership is transferable.
Certified Business Developer (CBD) Program
Is it in partnership with ASU, or run through the ASU system?
We have a partnership with ASU’s Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering. The program is produced and delivered through the Business Development Guild.
Who is providing the certification upon completion, ASU or the Business Development Guild?
The BD Guild will be issuing the Certification.

Is this mainly focused around the construction industry, or business development in general as a profession?
We are coming from the A/E/C world so a couple classes are from that perspective. However, the course has been designed to offer a deep dive into the fundamentals that will be transferable to other industries.
Are there continuing education credits required to keep my certification?
Yes, there will be continuing education credit required. They can be earned through BD Guild and other association meetings.
